The Anacortes Sailing Team is open to any interested middle or high school student, no experience necessary. Sailors are encouraged to participate in all three seasons if they can, but may participate in as little as one season.
Spring practice: mid-February to May
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-6:00pm
Summer practice: late June to early August
Monday and Thursday from 5:00-7:30pm
Fall practice: September to early November
Monday and Thursday from 3:00-6:00pm
Students who join the team should expect both a physical and mental workout as well as exposure to the outdoor elements. The team sails in snow, rain, and (of course) wind, so be prepared for all kinds of weather!
We are proud to offer sailing as a varsity sport. We incur many expenses in order to travel and compete in various regattas throughout the year. Therefore, students should not join the team simply looking for sailing instruction; all members compete as part of the team. Those interested in solely sailing for pleasure and not in racing should look into the summer learn-to-sail program or the recreational sailing club.
Different opportunities for different ages:
While grades 6-12 can attend practices year-round and regattas in the summer, the regattas we attend in spring and fall as part of the high school circuit are restricted by grade.
High school sailors, grades 9-12 have the chance to letter in sailing and can compete in all high school regattas, depending on Varsity or JV placement
8th graders can compete in regional high school regattas as part of the JV team, but not in district events
6th and 7th graders cannot compete in high school regattas
We are working on a middle school sailing club, email us if you're interested!
