Anacortes Sailing Team
Teaching kids to sail and race for over 20 years
Who we are: The Anacortes Sailing team has existed since it was founded in 1992 by a group of sailors and parents interested in passing on a love for the sport. Currently, we operate through an agreement between the Anacortes Parks and Rec, the Anacortes Yacht Club, Anacortes High School, and Anacortes Waterfront Alliance. We compete in both the spring and fall as part of the Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA).
Who can join: The Anacortes Sailing Team is a varsity sport open to students of any skill level in 6th through 12th grade, however racing against other teams is available to grades 8-12 only. We hope to soon make a separate middle school team to create more opportunities for the younger sailors.
What to expect: Sailors on the team learn and hone the skills it takes to sail, race, and compete as a team. We sail small doublehanded dinghies called FJs, as well as the occasional RS Tera, Opti, Laser, Lido, or c420.
While sailors of any experience level may join, the team is not a stand-in for a learn-to-sail class. If you are looking for sailing instruction and not a race team, a summer learn-to-sail course may be the right choice.
